Yard Work and Memorial Day... kind of synonymous, don't cha think?

This weekend we spent alot of time in the garden doing yard work and fixing things up. I planted a kitchen garden full of salsa stuff... tomatillos, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro and other herbs.
Jake hauled a whole truck load of soil prep and unloaded it ALL BY HIMSELF!!! (He really did do a great job!) Robert's beans got some company with peppers and melons...

I put some "wave" petunias in hanging pots on the playhouse... I thought they looked cute in sand buckets! I also put some geraniums in the old window box from Layton... it's low so the kids can reach it to water it!

The island in the front got a new look of dahlias, petunias, bleeding hearts along with snowmound spirea shrubs.

OK, we have eight million mice that thrive around Niner's kennel. Why not? If I was a mouse, I'd live at my house...they get food and water every day and Niner just watches them run around.

Bryan, being the great neighbor and Hunter, I might add, that he is, came over and helped Jake set some traps. They caught 13 mice in about 10 minutes... as soon as they set the trap it would go off. Jake is showing off their great catch... 2 in one trap.

So, late in the week I asked Jake to get some more mice with his friends. I called to check on their work and they had set up lawn chairs and were shooting the mice with guns. (Granted, they were BB guns) but c'mon... why do boys ALWAYS have to be boys?

A Great Day with the Grandkids!

We planted their gardens, full of lots of flowers! They "helped" me pick where to put the flowers and then the boys watered them... REALLY, REALLY good!

Hallie got to spend some time with me after her field trip. We planted her garden and then got our toenails painted!

Karson still needs to come spend the day with us! He wants to have a sleep over in the playhouse... so it needs to be a little warmer for Grandma!

Happy Mother's Day!

It was a great Mother's Day. All of Robert's family were here. We haven't all been together in years even though they all just live down the street! We had a great time getting re-aquainted and spending good time together!

Spring is Here... Woo Hoo!

Spring is here and it is SO GOOD to get outside and some fresh air!

The 13th Anniversary of my 34th Birthday is tommorrow

May 4th, 2009

So, I'm turning 47 tommorrow and I don't think that sounds like alot of fun, so I've decided to be 34. Then, every year I'll just celebrate my anniversary... sounds good to me!

Every year on my birthday it's a good time to reflect on things that have been good and things I could improve on. I usually make new resolutions because the one's I set on January 1st have been long since forgotten.

This past week has been full of so many different thoughts for me. There has been happy things and very sad things and I wonder how all of this fits into Heavenly Father's plan.

I have so many things to be so very grateful for and I have a very good life. I have a husband that I love very much and he loves me and treats me well. I have children who are trying their best to follow their Heavenly Father and it does my heart good to watch them grow. Some days it's hard to watch them struggle and to not jump in and "rescue" them... but I know their trials will be for their good... just as my trials have been for me.

I'm so grateful for Robert's kids and grandkids and the relationship I have with each of them. My life is full.

I'm grateful for my Church callings and the interaction with the people around me. I love my calling in the Relief Society Presidency and the fun things we do and the great people we get to do them with. Robert and I have loved our calling for the Oquirrh Mountain Temple and the people in our stake that we have had the chance to get to know. I'm so grateful I'm able to go on Trek this summer with Jake as medical. I was able to go with the girls the year they went, and now to be able to go with Jake completes the circle. What a great experience it is to watch from a distance as your child feels the Spirit and it changes their life. I can't imagine a greater blessing for both of us.

As I sit at my computer this morning, the birds are singing and the sky is blue. With all the evil and bad things in this world, I truly believe that people... and this world... are good.

I look forward to the next "anniversary" of my birthday with hope and gratitude. All of the "aches and pains" of the body and heart will always be overshadowed by the great goodness of our Heavenly Father and the wonderful blessings which are mine.
