The 13th Anniversary of my 34th Birthday is tommorrow

May 4th, 2009

So, I'm turning 47 tommorrow and I don't think that sounds like alot of fun, so I've decided to be 34. Then, every year I'll just celebrate my anniversary... sounds good to me!

Every year on my birthday it's a good time to reflect on things that have been good and things I could improve on. I usually make new resolutions because the one's I set on January 1st have been long since forgotten.

This past week has been full of so many different thoughts for me. There has been happy things and very sad things and I wonder how all of this fits into Heavenly Father's plan.

I have so many things to be so very grateful for and I have a very good life. I have a husband that I love very much and he loves me and treats me well. I have children who are trying their best to follow their Heavenly Father and it does my heart good to watch them grow. Some days it's hard to watch them struggle and to not jump in and "rescue" them... but I know their trials will be for their good... just as my trials have been for me.

I'm so grateful for Robert's kids and grandkids and the relationship I have with each of them. My life is full.

I'm grateful for my Church callings and the interaction with the people around me. I love my calling in the Relief Society Presidency and the fun things we do and the great people we get to do them with. Robert and I have loved our calling for the Oquirrh Mountain Temple and the people in our stake that we have had the chance to get to know. I'm so grateful I'm able to go on Trek this summer with Jake as medical. I was able to go with the girls the year they went, and now to be able to go with Jake completes the circle. What a great experience it is to watch from a distance as your child feels the Spirit and it changes their life. I can't imagine a greater blessing for both of us.

As I sit at my computer this morning, the birds are singing and the sky is blue. With all the evil and bad things in this world, I truly believe that people... and this world... are good.

I look forward to the next "anniversary" of my birthday with hope and gratitude. All of the "aches and pains" of the body and heart will always be overshadowed by the great goodness of our Heavenly Father and the wonderful blessings which are mine.

Temple Open House Security starts today!

April 25, 2009

Today was the first day of our stake assignment at the temple. Our stake is sharing today with Bluffdale stake and Robert has been up there checking things out and making sure all the walkie talkies are working and that people are showing up like they should. We had an overlap of people on the 3am shift, but things worked out well the rest of the day.

People in the area are so excited about our new temple and the response for volunteers has been wonderful. It's such a testimony builder to me to see the efforts of the people around that area. I know that we haven't had to sacrifice and struggle with physical labor and trials like the early saints had to do, but I still appreciate the willingness of the people to sacrifice their time and talents to help the temple Open House. It's been a wonderful thing.

Working at the temple has been such a great blessing for Robert and I. Our feelings for the temple have deepened and the reasons we go to the temple have been strengthened. We're anxious to go.

Another good day for our Open House. We are still doing just 24/7 security, but it all went well. There are more tents up now for visitors and refreshments, etc, so there are more areas to watch. The only glich was the walkie talkies ran out of batteries and no one knew what the combo to the lock box to get more. We found the magic code and all was well!

Boys will be Boys... no matter how old!

April 16, 2009

Last night we got to babysit Kyler, Hazen and Hallie. We did the usual coloring, playing with Barbies and playing on the play ground in the backyard.

Hazen had to go potty, so, much to Grandpa's delight, he just did it outside. Wel Kyler wasn't about to miss out on on the fun, so next thing we know, he's trying to take off his diaper and let it rip! We had to help him a bit, but it was so cute to see them out there!

As Robert says, "When you can't pee in your own backyard, it's time to move." I just hope they don't do that t school. At least they can say they were taught by their Grandpa!... you know... he still does it!

A Few Hours of "Down Time"

April 1, 2009

Robert and I went to St. George for a couple of days for his work. It was good "Communicating" time and some great non-stop knitting for me.

He did spoil me with a massage and facial at the day spa and I told him I'd go with him every time if I got to knit and have a massage. I was rock star for a day... well, at least a couple of hours.

The whole "meditation room" (or maybe just sitting in someone else's robe on a Wednesday afternoon), opens up some train of thought and some good insight into your soul. I took a moment to jot some things down...in my mind at least.

I'm very grateful for the lessons that I have learned and the things I have been able to experience in my life. My mission president used to tell us that if we all threw our problems out onto a big table, we'd pick them up. They become our "friends". I always thought that was a bit odd, but I've come to believe it to be very true. Our problems are exactly what we need.

I've thought about that with Kaycer Noodle Nose. She is 19 going on 14 and is hitting the teenage thing in a way I've never seen. (Ummmmmm, Helloooooooo!) I WAS NOT running for Mother of the Year the other day and I felt bad that I lost my temper with her. That same day I barked at the kids for not doing the dishes and the basic chores around the house without being asked. Jake's response was to have a "Chore chart" like "Parker's house". So... that sent me. I started into a lecture that included something about little sunshine stickers we could put on the fridge and every time one of the kids, who are all adults, does something we could put a little sticker by their name. Why, we could even send a little chart on Jake's mission and his companion could put little stickers on his chart when he read his scriptures... you get the idea. Not an impressive moment in my parenting life.

As I was pondering the guilt that comes with the title, "Mom", I let myself start to think about the eternal aspect of the reason that we are all here. Like it or not, my kids do have their own agency and with that, comes the very important right and privelege to FALL. I am not responsible for their mistakes and trials. I have done as good of a job as I could to be the best parent I could be. Now is THEIR turn to be whatever and whomever they choose to be.

I believe that we should be a support to our kids and to love them. But I believe that our kids need to have the chance to fall... and to grow from that.

My kids are not perfect, but they are good. They have good friends and are making wise choices. I have allowed myself to feel guilt for putting my kids through divorce and hurt. I know that I have caused some of their pain... and that pain is very real. But I have always believed that if you approach your children with the attitude that "we'll be OK", instead of "look how horrible this is for our family", that we WOULD all be OK. I hope that the hurt I have caused my kids will be a learning experience for them.

I hope my children will ask more questions about who they choose for an eternal partner. I hope they learned to problem solve better than I have and to communicate their feelings better. I want them to trust themselves and their instincts. I don't want them to rely on me for their advice, validation or beliefs. I want for them to find it within themselves. I don't think that means that I'm not their mother, nor that I won't be there for advice or support. But, as my children grow into adults, I want to have an adult relationship with them. I want to be able to sit as friends and equals and talk about ideas and hope and dreams. More than anything in this world, I hope and pray that my kids will grow to be responsible adults with loving families that have the Spirit in their homes to guide and protect them.

Wow!... it's amazing what a deep tissue massage and some aromatherapy can do for your soul!

Easter 2009

Cache, Carly, Carson, Coby and Race showed us some of their great roping skills. After some "trick roping", Robert took Coby to the farm to try to rope the goat! The goat was too quick for Cobers, so he tried some loops on Norman. Norman caught on pretty quick, so he didn't stick around long.

The baby shower was SO fun. We did games like "Spit the Binkie in to the Crying Baby's Mouth". We smelled "dirty" diapers, and tried to pick up easter eggs with a breast pump.

The "Grand Finale" was decorating the mesh panties and having our own fashion show. It was soooo fun. Callie did some dirty dancing, while Codi Kiesel struck some very sexy poses. We had a great time seeing friends and family that we haven't seen for awhile.

Here's baby O doing "Tummy Time". Tummy Time is not his "super fave" so he rolls over! Already! Levi says it's because he's an Antoine!
Cache and Ellie Bellie. Cutest dimples, huh?
Jake Man and Carl.

Lincoln and Ellie playing in the back yard. We were lucky to have some breaks in the weather so the kids could go outside. Lincoln wasn't loving the swing, but he loved the slide.
Ellie, Lincoln and Baby O got their first dread lock hats!

Cache, Carly and Carson have their orders in now!

The kids lining up for Easter morning to see what the Easter Bunny brought. Jessi and McKay got to jump to the front of the line because they had Ellie and Lincoln!

We had people lined up everywhere! The adults had the bedrooms and fifth wheel and the kids had couches and the blow up mattresses. We really did hav tons of room and it was wonderful to have so many of us here at the same time.

What a great Easter we had! Levi and Tana blessed Baby O today and we had Tana's baby shower yesterday. We have had almost 30 people here for the weekend and it was WONDERFUL! What a blessing family is.

Here's some of the pictures and some explanations!
